FISHERMAN FOR A DAY
Become a fisherman for a day and learn the secrets of traditional fishing systems!
On one shore of Lake Trasimeno there is a small fishing village where all the men teach their children the different traditional fishing methods on the lake. However, they know that this activity could easily become a lost tradition like so many others. Even the long hours spent waiting and watching the sky, because a rainy day could mean no fish for the family, were normal for past generations.
In any case, there is still great respect for this activity in the Trasimeno area.In the morning, you will leave with the fishermen and their small, private fishing boats. You will learn how to cast the 'giacchio', a special, traditional fishing net. While waiting for the fish, you can visit an enchanting island in the lake, Isola Polvese. Today this island is a nature park and can only be reached by private boats.
You will then have the chance to be guided by the fishermen and hear their interesting stories about the island. Then, back at the boats, you can check how much fish has been caught and...... some of it will be yours!
On the way back we will stop for a tasting of crostini and a variety of fried fish.
In the afternoon, we will visit an old oil mill in the vicinity of the fishermen's village, where we will have the opportunity to taste an excellent extra virgin olive oil. Here we will also visit the 'Ziraia', a room where more than ten ancient jars are still used for the natural decantation of olive oil.
- The boat transports up to 10 persons. In the case of larger groups (maximum 20 persons), clients will be divided into smaller groups.
- This is a very special tour because guests can really get in touch with the local people and their traditions, such as the traditional fishing system.
- Schedules can easily be changed and adapted according to the location of the clients.
- In the event of heavy rain or bad weather, the tour can be cancelled without any liability on the part of the organiser.
