La Francescana is Umbria’s historic cycling event, as it is the only non-competitive cycling tourism event open exclusively to vintage bicycles and cyclists wearing period clothing consistent with the bicycle being used.
The three routes (Long, Medium and Short) allow participants to visit beautiful places in the Valle Umbra and to pass through wineries and olive mills where the famous La Francescana refreshment stops are located.
The routes may change from year to year and cross the wonderful villages of the Valle Umbra.
The start and finish always take place in the main square of Foligno, from where, in 1206, Saint Francis began his journey of faith by selling cloth and his horse.
The three days of La Francescana are enlivened by musical events (vintage music) and side events.
Of particular importance is the Saturday event at the “Velodromo dei Canapè”, featuring 1920s racing bicycles.
