Decugnano dei Barbi is a wine estate located in the hills of Orvieto, in Umbria, where millennial history and innovation meet in unique and identifiable wines.
Here we produce quality wines deeply linked to the terroir, where the marine and mineral components of the soils give rise to unique and recognisable expressions. Our history has its roots in 1212 and continues today with careful, sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture.

Nascosto nelle misteriose grotte etrusche sotto la collina di Decugnano, c'è un vino pregiato prodotto in quantità estremamente limitate: il nostro Metodo Classico Millesimato.Creato da Claudio Barbi nel 1978 come omaggio alle sue radici bresciane, questo vino era inizialmente prodotto con uve procanico e verdello. Negli anni è stato trasformato in qualcosa di ancora più speciale, utilizzando Chardonnay e Pinot Nero e portando il periodo di affinamento sui lieviti a quasi 4 anni. La lavorazione è completamente artigianale: remouage e sboccatura sono eseguiti ancora manualmente, con cura e passione.
Metodo Classico Dosaggio Zero is a recent creation, born in the 2010 vintage. The cuvée used for Dosaggio Zero is the same as that of our renowned Brut: it comes from the same vineyards, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and follows the same vinification process and maturation on the lees for 42 months. The main difference lies in the dosage. Without the addition of sugar in the liqueur, Dosaggio Zero fully reveals the authenticity of the Decugnano terroir, with its mineral strength, savouriness and the memory of the ancient sea that once covered our soils, a good 3 million years ago.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the summer sunset with 'Tramonto d'estate', our rosé wine that comes from the grapes of a passionate English friend who decided to plant his Grenache vineyard near Decugnano.The collaboration began with the 2018 harvest, when we first vinified these grapes, and it immediately yielded excellent results.The colour of the wine recalls the magical hue of the summer sky just before sunset, from which it takes its name.
Mare Antico is the wine that best represents Decugnano dei Barbi. Already the name refers to that ancient sea on which our vineyards grow today.The grapes come from our oldest vineyards, whose roots sink into sandy soils rich in shells to capture the soul of the place and transform it into a delicious drop of wine.We are truly always proud to offer this wine that best conveys the sense of our work.
Immerse yourself in the experience of tasting our Orvieto Classico, Frammento - an elegant and pleasantly versatile wine, perfect to accompany your everyday moments. Its name evokes the fragments of shells that our soils are full of, witnesses of the sea that once covered them millions of years ago. But it also evokes the philosophical concept of terroir, and the fact that even in a sip of wine (a 'fragment') the whole soul of the place is still preserved.

The name 'The Inquisitor' evokes a sense of challenge, a challenge to produce a wine from an international grape variety at a time when critics and many enthusiasts prefer native varieties. Hence, the back label makes it clear: 'You are the inquisitor, who judges this wine even before tasting it'. This Sauvignon Blanc comes from an old vineyard and only saw the light of day with the 2016 vintage, with a very limited production of bottles. The result was incredibly surprising and exciting, so much so that we have been motivated to continue the production of this engaging, distinct and extremely captivating wine. Accept our challenge: taste it!
