Day 1

Arrival in Amelia, followed by a guided tour of the impressive Archaeological Museum, home to the beautiful statue of the Roman general Germanicus, prince of the Gens Julia Claudia and father of Nero.

After a delicious taste of one of Amelia’s most renowned specialities – dried figs, known since Roman times – we continue our tour in the southern part of the village, amongst the remains of ancient roads, thermal baths and Roman domus.

We’ll then take a stroll through the historic centre to admire the ancient cyclopean walls, before putting on our safety helmets and descending into the underground chambers to see the ancient Roman cisterns – a masterpiece of hydraulic engineering designed in the 1st century BC and used until 1950.Check-in at the hotel, welcome dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the Marmore Falls. Entry to the park to walk the trails, admire the beauty of the falls and discover their history: the ingenious hydraulic engineering project by the Roman consul Curio Dentato in 271 BC enabled the collection of water from the Velino, which had been stagnating in the Sabina (the Rieti plain), and connected the two river basins (Nera–Velino).

Lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon, departure for the ancient site of Carsulae near the village of San Gemini. This Roman-era town, situated along the Via Flaminia, preserves, in the area of the forum, the remains of public buildings, two twin temples, the Arch of San Damiano, the amphitheatre, the theatre and burial remains. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Visit to the town of Narni and the Eroli Museum, guided by the special map ‘Discovering the Via Flaminia!’

Lunch at your leisure. In the afternoon, departure for Ocriculum, an ancient Roman settlement: a tour of the Forum and Basilica, the imposing monument of the Grand Sostrizioni, the Theatre, the Baths, a monumental entrance pylon, a large Nymphaeum, a cobbled section of the ancient Via Flaminia flanked by a round funerary monument and a public fountain, the Amphitheatre, imposing funerary monuments and, to the right of the Roman town, along the Via Flaminia state road, the Archaic Necropolis (7th century BC).
