This route starts out from Narni, an ancient town dating back more mthan three thousand years, and conquered by the Romans in 299 BC under the name of Narnia. The town is situated among the quiet hills at the south-westernmost tip of Umbria, and the ride takes you to several other ancient towns and villages, such as Otricoli, Calvi dell’Umbria and Poggio.

The route runs through the south-western part of the region, making use of quiet, secondary roads and passing through some charming but little-known villages, such as Calvi dell’Umbria, Otricoli (home to the archaeological site of the ancient Roman city of Ocriculum) and Poggio.
From a technical point of view, the most significant climb is the one leading to Calvi dell’Umbria: it’s almost 8 kilometres long, but with gradients that remain fairly manageable throughout, suitable even for those who aren’t climbers.
The rest of the route is, however, quite undulating and doesn’t feature much flat terrain, as evidenced by the over 800 metres of elevation gain packed into 43 kilometres.
It requires a bit of training, but the distance is not prohibitive and the route should be accessible to a wide range of cyclists.
