Day 1

Arrival at Borgo San Faustino, an ancient estate in the hills of Orvieto, close to Monte Peglia. Tour of the estate, the farm and the historic cellars, followed by a welcome tasting of the estate’s wines – Orvieto Classico DOC and IGT – paired with local produce. Check-in to a standard room, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Orvieto, a marvellous town perched on a tuff cliff. Visit to St Patrick’s Well, an engineering masterpiece built by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger in the 16th century to supply water to the town in the event of a disaster. Continue to the medieval quarter, enter the underground chambers of the Pozzo della Cava, and visit the caves, which include Etruscan tombs, cisterns and cellars. Light lunch with a tasting of three wines, cold cuts, bruschetta, crostini, biscuits and dessert wine. A stroll through the streets of the historic centre to the Romanesque cathedral: inside the Chapel of San Brizio, you can admire the magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, Benozzo Gozzoli and Beato Angelico. Return to the village, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel. Meet the guide for a caving excursion to the Pozzi della Piana*. The excursion begins with a visit to the medieval village of Titignano, which offers a magnificent view over Lake Corbara. We then make our way through the countryside to the entrance of the vast underground system: via a ‘natural slide’, we will enter a system of karst caves for a tour lasting approximately 3 hours. At the end of the excursion, return to Borgo San Faustino. One-hour access to the wellness centre with the option of relaxing treatments. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Departure for the Valnerina, the narrow gorge of the River Nera. Admission to the Cascata delle Marmore Nature Park, home to Europe’s highest waterfall, set amidst lush natural surroundings. Hike along the park’s trails, which allow you to admire the waterfall from various angles. Continue to Lake Piediluco, a basin nestled amongst the hills formed by the source of the River Velino, which, a short distance away, meets the River Nera at the famous waterfall. Lunch overlooking the lake, featuring local specialities. In the afternoon, a sightseeing boat trip with stops for photographs.
